coopers lager
coopers lager
does anyone know if the yeast supplied with coopers lager kits is a genuine bottom fermenter type, some kits seem to use the same one for the range ?
Re: coopers lager
Not sure about the type of yeast but I have just done the Australian lager kit.
It fermented like crazy for three days and then seemed to stop. I left it for 24 hours but still no life so I gave it a shake and it woke up and fermented nicely for a further two days. It was fermenting in my kitchen and the temp was between 17-21C which is on the cold side as recommended on the instructions.
It has been in the bottle for around a week and seems to be carbonating nicely. It also tasted ok when bottled so I have high hopes!

was thinking of the Australian Lager. Wondering wether to ferment in usual FV or in a sealed one under air lock ?brysie wrote:which of the coopers lagers are you referring to there johnny boy?
Re: coopers lager
im pretty sure its an ale yeast with that one.
ive done it myself and while the brew wasnt bad, it wasnt like any lager ive ever tasted.
try and get hold of a proper lager yeast and ferment at a lower temperature if you want it to turn out more like real lager.
ive just got one ready for bottling that i added boiled and steeped hops to, to try and make it taste more authentic.

Re: coopers lager
I'm on day 3 of a Coopers Mexican. According to Coopers, they claim to use a genuine lager yeast in the European lager. The others seem to be ale yeast. If it is the European is can be brewed as low as 13C
As for the FV, people have different ideas. I prefer a sealed lid with an air lock. I feel that this is the best way to keep the nasties out and let the CO2 out.
