Can I Add More Water

Post by Denis of Stoke » Tue May 19, 2009 1:04 pm

Hi each,

I'm doing a Cooper's Aussie lager. My FV just holds 5 gals but last time I used it i had some overspill from the initial vigorous fermentation. So to prevent that happening again, I made up the kit but made it up to 20 ltrs not 23.

Now the fermentation has settled down - on day 4 by the way - am I okay to add the other 3 litres or am I best leaving things as they are?

Thanks in advance

Denis

Yes go ahead and add the extra water, its common practice too, especially with Coopers Stout!

Just make sure you pour it in very carefully as you don't want to introduce any extra oxygen at this stage.
Best wishes

Just make sure that water (and the vessel you use to transfer it) are scrupulously clean - would be a shame to introduce infection at this stage.
