GARYSMIFF 'S SYSTEM (RIMS)

Post by GARYSMIFF » Sat May 23, 2009 11:44 pm

Please note for some reason BT decided to end FTP storage so the pics are not listed, but I plan to resolve this but when :(

Greetings all
If it is ok I will use this space to post pics of my system and how my build is going.

I will post the stages when complete but until then here is.....

My Heat stick:

it is a 2000W, 300mm, 16 Diameter, SSteel 240v heater housed in a 22 mm copper with a rimmed out 15mm-22mm compression, and some solder.

The heat stick is connected to a Eurotherm PID. see below

Cool.

Where'd you get the heater from?

My current plan is a self adhesive flexible silicone heater wrapped around the outside of a piece of 42mm copper pipe.....

I love the control panel - it's like something from a 70's Sci-fi movie.

The company I got the heater from is called Carlton Technologies ( carltontech.co.uk) but that said when the unit came it was sent direct from Spain and contained the invoice to Carlton and what a markup, but I can provide you with the Spanish company who sent the Heat Stick only thing is not sure if they will deal with Joe public but worth a try, It cost me £40 plus postage with Carlton the invoice from the Spanish company was 24 Euros for stick and to include the shipping  .

http://www.cartridge-heater.com = Spanish company give it a go, look at the Stock heading on the left.

Oh re: the Control unit you should see inside it, some one made this unit with love 8) , the internal loom is held together with surgeon like ties( wire) the chap I got this off of says this would have been £1,000+ when new.

The shed was given to me buy a chap at work, I expect that I will be trying to invent an exhaust steam system next to stop the shed turning into a Beer sauna, not a bad Idea though!!

Some Heat Stick testing prior to plumbing in pipes and electrics ( will it work) 40 degrees to 66 degrees in 20 mins.

Check out my ArmorFlex F1 Turbo keg., this holds temp for over 60mins, almost makes the Heat Stick a waste of time, but at least I will get a nice clear wort for the Boil, 50mm of ArmorFlex 25mm x2. This is realy top stuff.

I measured the diameter and made a tube 2wice the lengh joined it with armaflex glue waited a few mins for it to dry with the aid of a bin liner, slipped it over then folded it back on its self, I did use a bit of talc ( found that advise on a Rubbist site I happend to stumble on. ..lol)

Nice setup. Could you post a link to where you got the armaflex from? I have been toying with that stuff for my mash tun instead of my blankets. It would need to be removable for me though as I am heating the mash tun direct at times with propane. Looks neat though, and just like the ones I saw in the states. Cheers subsonic.

This is what made me look for the Armacell, http://www.brewtree.com/BREWTREE_TUTORIAL.html looks like he has 50mm in a single sheet.

Here is the link

Armaflex Sheet Class 0 Looks like the price has gone up x2 NB: they have an Ebay site you might be able to save a few pennys.

People,
if you are interested,
This week I have mostly been making a Table top: :) and waiting delivery of my Plate Heat exchanger, then I might be able to fire this up and see if it has been worth the effort:
