The Out of Date Coopers Tweeked Larger Kit Brew Day

Getting all my kit together discover this! Oh feck looks like ill be brewing in the dark where abv% is involved, oops

Image

Ahwell here are the ingredients that i used recipe was:

1 Can Coopers Lager out of date!
40g Treacle
30g Dark Brown Sugar
340g Honey
8Lt Water
2Kg Ice (To cool boiled wort to pitching temp)
2 Bottles of Ale (Just to aid the brewer!)

Yes i know its a lager kit but found some dark sugar and the treacle and thought that if i made it look less like lager i might enjoy it more!

All the sugars and concentrated wort added to 2lt boiling water and boiled for 20mins

Image

Stiring for all im worth! Yes i work for tesco! Opps says alot when you wear work clothes for brewing.

Image

Then contents of the brew poured in to the FV which has 2kg ice and add extra 6lt of water! Final volume 11lts! Go my yeasties (no i couldnt find any more yeast so i pitched the yeast that came with the kit! Well there was no best before on it so it must be fine! lol) Oh and for a 11lt brew the 2kg ice with 6lt of water and 4ish lts of boiling wort cam in at 22 degrees spot on!(yes it was more by chance than actual planning!)

Image

Safe and sound waiting to be bottled in a week or so!

Image

If anyone is clever enough to work out the possible starting gravity i would be most appreciative! I recon with with highly precise workings out(guessing) it should be about 1059ish!

Footnote the house now smells lush except her indoors isnt to keen on the smell!

Do you normally boil your water and wort together?
Just curious as I've always just dumped the wort from the tin,
into the 2 litres of water sitting in the FV, then stir and add the sugars.

Always worked ok for me but am curious as to the way you did it.

You've got something wrong there. Just the LME on its own will give 4.5% ABV for a 10 litre brew length. I've never used BeerSmith but I suspect you don't specify the brew length by adding water to the fermentables list.
Best wishes

Combination of boredom, wanting to make the house smell nice and wanted to make sure everything was pasturised before going in to the FV.

Cheers guys for the calculations gives me a little idea of %
