hmm, I wondered that also. I started brewing kits at the start of the year and went to my nearest Boots to see what they had in. Imagine my horror when asking the assistant and being told it was years since they stocked anything like that, it's probably because brewing and drinking beer isn't deemed 'healthy' , and for their image Boots probably wouldn't want to associated with anything like that now. When I brewed before it was about the early 90s so they stopped somewhere between then and early this year.Calum wrote:It was such a simple life! I used to get everything from Boots. When did boots stop stocking homebrew equipment?

I have tried the Brewzer which turned out turged tasting beer with the lager being the worst. I then visited one of those Christmas fairs and came accross a Mr Beer stall who was displaying the brewing equipment and had a few small samples to taste. The only trouble was that at the other end of the hall there was a small local brewery with a couple of barrels of the real stuff (name escapes me) with a couple of pints being obviously a huge improvement on the Mr Beer thimble samples!
My wife obviously had clocked what I had been looking at and I was 'lucky' enough to get a Mr Beer kit for Christmas.
Mr Beer was a huge improvement on the Brewzer but the barrel size was so small that it really didn't seem to be worth all the effort as no sooner had it been ready to drink then it was all gone!
I found this forum, bought the microbrewery kit with the Woodfordes Wherry and the rest is history! Lovely stuff I am now totally hooked and getting the equipment together to allow me to try an All grain brew.

i start brewing AG 2 years ago now ( never brew kits
,i first start by making cider as it's more popular here
there's not many people brewing here ( perhaps 2-3 AG brewers miles around; but there're some brewing with kits )
now i'm happy because i've convince some members of our association to start brewing with kit and i'm going to buy equipments share between them to begin. there're about 6 ready to do it in the coming weeks
2007 will be a good year

Started with a Woodfordes kit just over a year ago. Moved straight onto extract brews. Thought that AG was too difficult (it's what certain US homebrew books told me..
), then I got the internet and discovered homebrew forums, and was convinced otherwise.
. Now I mostly do AG brews, with the odd extract or kit should I wish to throw a quick brew together.
