Hophead

Post by tomU » Mon Jun 01, 2009 3:20 pm

This is the 1st beer of my summer brewing season - got a sack of low colour marris otter so I'll be doing loads of pales over the next couple of months...

The hop schedule has been shamelessly snatched from SiHoltye's Hophead III (viewtopic.php?f=24&t=23273), so big props to him.

Malt base is pretty simple:

4kg low colour MO
200g Carapils

Hops, 100% cascade (7.3%AA):

30g - 90mins (28IBUs)
40g - 1min
10g - 0min

Protofloc tablet at 15mins
S-04 yeast

Piccies! :

My newly finished mashtun:

Running off batch 1:

First runnings - nice and light. Couldn't get the camera to focus on the sample jar but you can see the colour well enough...

First lot of hops - 30g cascade:

On the stove coming up to the boil:

Its been boiling almost an hour now - its already crystal clear with a good hot break. Preboil gravity was 1035 - should get up to the 1039-1040 mark which is about right. More pics later...

Looks like a good 'un!

I'm going to try that hop schedule soon.

I hope you didn't splash any of that boiling wort on your bare feet!
