Best IPA Kit?

Post by welshbrew83 » Mon Jun 01, 2009 8:55 pm

Hi All,

New to brewing and on my first lot of Wherry, (not very original looking at many of the newbie posts!). All is giong well, started on Friday, took a little while for it to get going but started at 1040 and currently down to 1013, hoping to get a good brew and hopefully havent got a dreaded stuck fermentation.

I am looking to get a nother kit going soon so i dont run out of beer and am looking to put on an IPA next, can anyone recommend a good quality IPA Kit, and got some extra tips for making the best out of the brew?

Cheers!

Thanks again

Pretty sure the Cooper's IPA kit is a standard 40pt - willing to be corrected, but it's a 1.7kg can before you add the sugar, so that sounds about right to me? I'm following this thread closely as I'm hoping to do an IPA sometime in my next few brews, and I've been after some advice on which ones are worth getting. :-)

BeerBase had this to say about the Cooper's:

IPA
Make with 500g light sparaymalt, 500g medium spraymalt and 250g brew sugar. Also add 250g east kent goldings boiled for 20 mins and !voilla! best IPA you will ever drink.

Hope that helps.

Gill.

my first kit ever was the Coppers but I made the mistake of following coppers instructions that said to only put in 500g sparymalt and 300g coopers dextrose, this is what they recommended on the can and on their site.

http://www.coopers.com.au/homebrew/make ... =3&bid=124

Made it up to 23L and I got a very low alcohol content 3.67% and watery tasting result. Its been in bottles for almost 2 months now and still tastes awfull. :-( My OG was 1035 and FG was 1008.

So follow the advice of previous posts and put in more fermentables than i did:-)

good luck.

Yep it's a 23 litre/40 gallon kit, I made my to 20 litres and it's now being drunk and very nice it is too. The only thing I plan to do differently next time is less priming sugar as it's a bit fizzy.

I made my Coopers IPA up with 1.5 kg DME and 300g sugar and it is great -- still needs a little more conditioning, but it's already a pretty serious pint.
Also add 250g east kent goldings
 Now that would be aromatic!

how exactly do i add the goldings? This will only be my second brew. Am i right in assuming i steep the goldings in muslin then transfer to the FV? PLease correct if i am wrong, also what temp/time/volume of water is needed to do this

Thanks
