Pitched Youngs Defiitive Bitter on Abdij Trub..iffy

Post by Steiney66 » Mon Jun 01, 2009 9:38 pm

Hi all- I mentioned I was doing this in a previous thread as I didnt have any yeast for the bitter kit & wanted to get cracking on a 2nd brew that would be drinkable quicker than the Abdij. I bottled the trappist on saturday & made up the bitter in the priming bucket immediately afterwards-then syphoned into the trub on the fv. By sunday night it was a bit lively, have skimmed the scum off the top today (day 2) as there was a bit of an iffy scent from fv- that appears to have gone. The OG started at 1042 & is now at 1010.Question for people ith yeast knowledge- Have I screwed up using the belgium trub or is it worth still bottling. These are my first 2 brews for 5 years & have I cut a corner too many ?

I wouldn't say you have screwed up, at the end of the day yeast is yeast so it will ferment, just might get something a bit different. Let us know how you get on.

Cheers
