Either type of sugar will be fine. can't help with the bottles. Just hope you weren't foolish enough to taste the contents.
Best wishes

Bud bottles carry a risk, as do any thin walled glass bottles. If by chance (or design) the pressure in your bottles during 2ndry fermentation gets too high the thin glass will give way with bomb like enthusiasm - bottle bombs. To make this scenario much, much more unlikely only bottle condition your beer in bottles that have had bottle conditioned beer in them. They are thicker and a lot less likely to put a hole in your ceiling if you over prime them...seriously hole in your ceiling  Sorry, prolly not what you wanted to hear suggested

Yes bud bottles are not much cop, I used a few while bottling lager the other day and they cracked just with the force of putting the crown cap on.

So I won't use them again.

Not wishing to advocate the use of thinner glass, but I tend to slightly underprime my bitters (not suitable for lager, admittedly), as I am not keen on gushing, super fizzy ales. Prefer mine to come like a poorly poured pint from a handpump - not perfect by any means, but to my tastes, a good bitter/mild/stout should not be like fizzy lemonade.

As such, I will use slightly less sugar to prime. If a pint bottle is said to require 5mg in recipe, I will use 4mg tops. (I actually make a sugar syrup with boiled, sterilised water, dissolve total priming weight into a liquid volume that I divide by number of bottles and dispense with a measured pipette - accurate and less mess too!)

I have therefore used thin glass (note - Pedigree bottles for example make a statement on label that they use less glass as an "environmental measure" - not a cost cutting measure at all?) I have over 200 pints in glass in my garage, slightly underprimed as above, and no breakages.

If using bud bottles or similar, I certainly wouldn't suggest the recipe recommendation per pint, and would drop it by say 1/5 to be safe. If you like it super fizzy, then take advice above - get strong bottles.

That's possibly going to be the biggest problem with them. I expect they'll take the pressure (they come with massively over-carbonated goat urine in them) but may need specialised equipment to cap them.
