airlock on fermenting bin

Re: airlock on fermenting bin
Just drill a hole, put the rubber bung in, then stick the airlock in. Any reason why you want to use one ? Not a lot of people bother, not really necessary. I just snap the lid shut, then crack it open slightly to let excess gas out.

Yes, but then you don't get to hear its first words! I love the sight and sound of a bubbling fermenter.

Buy the bung ( you can get a small one for lids) so you know what size hole to make. Bore the hole off to one side so when you lift the handle it's not in the way. I like to use an airlock as I find it gives a "guide" as to fermentation and when it's towards the end.

Another way is to use a grommet, cheaper than bungs.

I live in a small flat and ferment beside my TV. I sometimes lay on the sofa, switch off the TV and watch the fermenter.

LMFAO! You guys are some sad bazztards!
I, initially, tried an airlock with my Coopers Stout. Proved a complete waste of time ~ could've been a lot worse. The stuff just spews out through the 'lock and leads to drama and emotion. I stopped bothering after that

Re: airlock on fermenting bin
There are exceptions to every rule Ditch, Coopers Stout being one such exception I didn't even bother with an airlock after seeing how it ferments on here
