Top Tap Float
Top Tap Float
Hi
I am about to transfer my Wherry to the King Keg, I have fitted at Dalex tap to this and obviously using a float. Is there a particular way this float needs to be set up or just connected to the tap and left?
Cheers

Re: Top Tap Float
The only recommendation I would give is to allow the plastic hose to lay naturally in a broad arc around the sides of the PB and to make sure the connection to the rear of the tap is sealed tight. Once a 40 pint brew in in the PB the float will look after itself..

Have you pressure tested the KK with water, I had a load of hassle sealing the tap in place.
Took around 10 goes to get a good seal.

Hi
Didnt pressure test, is this vital? Not quite sure how to do it. It has been kegged about a week now and plenty of pressure when opening the tap with a good head on the beer. Not ready for drinking yet though!
Do have another KK this time with a bottom tap which i will be putting my Coopers IPA into next week. Would it worth pressure testing this first?
Cheers

Re: Top Tap Float
It would be useful, but the bottom taps are not nearly as much pain as the TT PB's as they only have the O-Ring and S30 valve seals to worry about.
Glad your TT PB has proved to be holding pressure. If you are using one of the S30 cylinders to apply additional CO2 as you draw the pints be careful not to loosen the S30 valve when screwing on/off the S30 CO2 cylinder like I have done once. You can come back to flat beer.

Have pressure tested and all is well with the second keg. Will be putting the IPA in this weekend! Wherry keg is holding up well, have drawn off a pint, loads a pressure and plenty of gas in the brew. Have a dalex tap with flow control so have been messing around with that a bit to get the consistency in the head. Looking forward to it being ready in a few more weeks!

Re: Top Tap Float
Hi welshbrew83 - how does using the dalex tap compare to the standard KK taps - those taps are a pain in the arse - I had one that got so stiff that I fashioned a 'wrench' out of a piece of wood with six nails hammered through in a hexagon and cut down, just to pour myself a bloody pint! The missus was amused. I binned that tap as soon as the barrel was empty. I tried a water-butt tap as a replacement - fine for the first batch of beer, leaked like buggery as soon as the pressure built up on the next batch - so I ended up using the standard KK tap again.
Could you post a picture so that I can see what the tap looks like?
Cheers,
P.S. - Does the float tube fit straight on the back of the dalex, or was there some modding required?

If you take the top of the tap off you can lube the thread of the drum tap with a touch of vaseline and it will work OK.bateman's fan wrote: standard KK taps - those taps are a pain in the arse - I had one that got so stiff that I fashioned a 'wrench' out of a piece of wood with six nails hammered through in a hexagon and cut down, just to pour myself a bloody pint!

sorry for the delay, ive been on holiday. I will post a pic of the tap for you. It works well, put on an extra washer to stop any unwanted spray from the tap when pulling it down. Adjusting the flow control gives a nice creamy head with the green widget in place. I have taken this out though and opened up the tap a little more to give a more bitter like head than a creamflow style head. The float tube fitted straight onto the dalex, no diy to do!
Will get the photo up for you tomorrow
Cheers
