The Coopers Explosion!
Re: The Coopers Explosion!
I'm in the same boat Birdy, after the overflow of froth in the first 24 hours, it has settled down almost completely. This morning, 2.5 days after pitching at OG 1042, I took a hydro reading of 1010, same as yours, and can't see any bubbling at all. The cupboard it's in has a constant 22/23 degrees or so, might explain the quick fermentation. I gave the yeast cake a gentle stir to see if it drops any further, should be in bottles by Saturday, thoroughly looking forward to the next few weeks sampling.
Re: The Coopers Explosion!
Prayboy, as with your warm cupboard i think the brewbelt was the reason for my quick ferm, was a bit stupid of me really as it is in the living room anyway and would have been warm enough, we live and learn eh!, had a small sample yesterday and it tasted ok, so looking forward to bottling it now and tasting the finished product, hope your's turns out ok let us know.
cheers.
cheers.
Re: The Coopers Explosion!
It all went canny well in the end. Gravity stayed at 1010 and I bottled it 7 days after pitching, mixing the priming sugar at 8g per litre by dissolving it in boiling water first.
After a week or two it was tasting nice, although quite sweet and a little remeniscent of dandelion and burdock, it's since matured a bit more and has a more rounded malty flavour. It has plenty of fizz but the head doesn't last long in the glass at all. Cleared beautifully and has pleasantly surprised some family members who hadn't had home brew in years.

Re: The Coopers Explosion!
Glad to see your's turned out ok prayboy, cant say the same for mine though, mine,s been in the bottle 5 weeks now, have tried a few bottles in that time but it hasn,t improved it looks ok, smells ok,but can't drink more than one bottle,it's got a really nasty sharp taste on it, the only way i can describe it is tainted, whatever tainted tastes like
and it doesen't appear to have any strength, gonna give it one more go tonight and if no change gonna chuck it
, i bottled another edme stout on saturday have done three of these recently and haven't had a problem, a really nice pint, and non of the hastle of crazy fermentation, it's obviously a one of, but i can't stand fails, think i'll just stick to tried and trusted.
