Hi
just got my firts brew on and its been going for 5 days. It is between 18 and 20 degrees according to min/max thermo. It has a small head on the primary fv whcih has not changed. I have seen pics of other people with wild fermentations. Is mine slow becasue of the low temp but will it get there eventually. Its still bubbling slowly. Should im give the yeast a stir. Any advice appreciated

1027 SF after five days is it normal
Re: 1027 SF after five days is it normal
Muntons are known to stick and/or be slow to ferment. Many experience a stuck fermentation at around 1.020 although 1.027 seems high even for them.
The temperature is on the low side - but still within the range - so that may make it slower to ferment fully. But that temperature is okay.
Have you calibrated your hydrometer? Mine reads 1.003 at 20 C in water (when it should be 1.000). If you haven't done so, check it, and adjust, if necessary.
I've just done a Wherry and it took 10 days to get to 1.011 at a temperature of 19 +/- 1 C. Give it some more time. If its still got a head on it, its probably okay, just a little lazy.
My yeast head has usually collapsed to nothing after 3 days, but it carries on fermenting.
Patience. I'm sure it'll be fine.

Hi Bez
As jerry says, be patient, Its only 5 days, it'll probably need about 10 days or longer, It has got quite a bit to go, but should be ok.
As you say, its still bubbling. so should be ok. just leave it alone.
