Ok, I've got my beer kit, brewers sugar, barrel, keg and stuff to steralise everything. Is there anything else I'll need to make my beer? Will i need thermometers and hydometers and such like?
Any advice is greatly welcomed!!
Cheers

Hi yodagoat
Welcome. 1st what kit have you got.
Yes you also need.
A fermentation vessel to ferment in.
A long paddle to give the wort a good stir to give it some oxygen.
A Hydrometer is an absolute must to check when its ready to bottle or keg it.
A thermometer to make sure its at the correct temperature to add the yeast.
Im sure others will also add to this list.

Have a look at Chris' tips on making up a kit.
Get everything he lists, and follow his advice and you won't go wrong.

Re: first kit
I had those instructions printed out when I did my first one, and it was fine. Most important part is sanitising everything. Good luck, use the search tool on here, answers most FAQ's.

Cheers everyone!!
I've got a big fermenting bucket with a lid from my local homebrew shop. Should I fit the lid tightly or loosly pace it on top of the bucket?
I'll get a hydometer and other stuff before I start the brewing!!
Do hydometers come with instructions?

Re: first kit
Fit the lid, but not tight, as you need a tiny gap to let excess pressure/Co2 out. What I do, is snap the lid on, then kind of un-snap it off one side. If you leave it on tight, with no airlock, it will bulge, then pop off under pressure.

Possibly. Possibly not. Either way; Just (Sanitise it) drop it into ye FV. Give it a tap or two with ye finger. Then twirl it, fast, by the stem. That helps assure that it's free of air bubbles and is floating honestly.
Then just read the weird set of numbers visible at the surface. Note down what ye see, no matter how incomprehensible it all seems. Note also the temperature of the wort.
There's various charts available on this forum (Search) to explain what ye notes will now reveal
