Disaster!
This morning I decided to get cracking with a Muntons Gold IPA that was a replacement from Muntons for a Wherry that stuck. Anyway everything was sterilised and I had just added the two tins and the boiling water to the fermenter. All good so far.... I quickly topped up to the five gallon mark and was just about to pitch the yeast when I noticed the tap on my FV was leaking everywhere from around the rubber washer.
I had to act fast as it was going everywhere. I had another FV unsterilised so I quickly sprayed it with Detol 99.9% germ killing spray and swilled it out quickly a few times and then pour the brew into it. I checked the temp and pitched the yeast and put the top on quick before anything else went wrong.
It has been a few hours and there does seem to be a thin foam forming...
What do you think my chances are of this turning out well???
Disaster! Well almost...
Re: Disaster! Well almost...
I was caught out once by something like this. I managed to tighten the tap by pulling it forwards so the nut got a grip on the inside of the FV and then turning the tap to tighten it.
It will probably work out Ok, but depends how grubby the second FV was, and also how well it was rinsed after the Dettol spray!
Best of luck with it!
