Brown Ale Kit

Post by crafty john » Tue Jul 07, 2009 6:07 pm

Hi all
Can anyone reccomend a nice brown ale kit, I have just started drinking a Brewmaker brown Ale that has been conditioning for 2 months, it's OK but you can tell the kit only cost £11.00, I did it with medium spray malt and dextrose and it's very drinkable but there seems to be something missing in the flavour.

Cheers guys

You could try improving the flavour with a hope tea. Fuggles would be the perfect hop for a brown ale. Also replacing 1/2 the dextrose with spraymalt will make a big difference.
Best wishes

Of the brown ale kits I've done the best by far has been the Black Rock Nut Brown Ale. It falls into that strange category of a kit that actually does taste similar to a popular commercial brew. I made mine with just a 1kg BKE and after 2 months it really did taste like a Newcastle Brown Ale.
