I’ve had the birch out and I’ve given myself 40 lashes for sheer stupidity.
I think have killed the yeast in my batch of Brupak India Pale Ale.
After doing everything by the book (carefully strerilising everything, rehydrating the yeast etc etc) I don’t think I let the liquid in the FV cool enough before I pitched the yeast. This is the only thing I can think of.
As a result fermentation hasn’t started even after 48 hours. No air leaks present etc, so I’m almost 100% sure I pitched the yeast into far too high a temperature.
The questions are:
What can I do to start the whole process again without chucking it all and starting again?
Do I just need another packet of yeast to re-pitch?
If so – What yeast shall I buy? (I’ve binned the Brupak yeast packet so I don’t know the type)
Do I need any yeast vitamins etc to get going again?
Thank you one and all for helping me with my embarrassing affliction…hc
The Death of a Brupak IPA - HELP...!
Re: The Death of a Brupak IPA - HELP...!
don't worry mate, like you've said, simply pitch another packet of yeast
I'm not sure which strain the Brupaks yeast is but Gervin, Nottingham, or S-04, all will give good results, if you have another kit kicking about, use the yeast out of that pack.
You'll be adding 11g instead if the 6g Brupaks give you, so it's better in a way
as long as your sanitation is good, and the beer hasn't exposed to any nasties, you should get away with it

Cheers Garth.
Rained off today, so guess who's off to the HBS?

Re: The Death of a Brupak IPA - HELP...!
You lot are amazing...!
Purchased my little bag of S-04, rehydrated it and pitched the lot into the FV. I'm not kidding, but the airlock was chortling away (technical term) happily within minutes.
Let's hope no nasties got in or the last packet of yeast I killed doesn't taint the flavour....hc
