No Sugar

Just spotted the below quote in this page about kits:

Don't follow the instructions on the can to add cane or corn sugar

Really? So you don't add any sugar at all to the primary fermentation? I suppose it makes sense, but why do all the kits say to add a kilo of sugar to the mix?

What about "Brewers sugar", or is that just finely ground cane sugar?
