Smoked Beer

Post by BEERMUG » Mon Nov 27, 2006 9:05 pm

Hi folks
Please advise on creating a smokey beer.
I want to use a Brupacks Lager kit (tea bag style) and add some rauchmaltz to get the smoke.
I don't full mash (no time or space) and use the kits for ease and reliability.
I get decent results from the kits but the mrs. wants some smokey stuff.
Has anyone got any suggestions.

Thanks :?:

It depends how much smoke you want. I found 5% of smoked malt in a Porter to be plenty.

Just bottled 40 pints of the lager kit + smoked malt added.
Initial sample proved very good, a very light lager, about 3% but with the smokey flavour i wanted. :D
This will make a great summer ale for the bbq season.

I am now trying a bitter, somewhat stronger with the rauchmaltz added.
I'll let you know in a couple of weeks whether it's undrinkable or the best on the planet!
