Coopers Stout whacked on Brewferm Xmas ale trub

Hi chaps-
I will be doing a brewferm xmas ale next week, & being a lazy bugger was wondering if I could bung a Coopers stout kit on the trub from it without compromising the taste? Ive used this process recently using the brewferm abbey then youngs definitive bitter(bought with no yeast in kit) respectively. It produced a fantastic creamy head & was a great sup for one of the cheaper kits.

Just reading some of the threads on here Coopers stout seems to have attained legendary status so cant wait to get cracking on it..but reading about the life it has when fermenting would the xmas ale trub make matters more interesting in me wardrobe?(or missus more angry at mess!)

Steiny; Coopers Stout has gained much of its " Legendary Status " by being what it is. A cheap, basic, one can kit which consistently produces the goods. As is. As is said to be and do.

The Greyhound is a fast Dog. Lacking in stamina, as a rule. Not the sharpest tool in the box, generally. Thus many people prefer to throw something else into the mix. Create any and every form of what's known as a " Lurcher ". For every and any reason, fashion and purpose. Fine Dogs, many of them. But they are not Greyhounds.

Myself? I'm of the view that one should at least experience a pure Greyhound, before mixing and meddling. It's knowing, for ones self, what that breed may need 'Tweeking' that teaches one how to attempt the adjustments.

Go straight in with a Coopers X Brewferm? Ye missing out on experiencing the " Legendary "

A good analogy regarding greyhounds as me dad raced them both sides of the water - always thought they were pretty dull creatures until you got em on the track.

Just in case I produce a whippet/afghan/lurcher type mongrel of an ale I will keep the two distinctive & separate- I will hold the thought of a (late summer!) evening supping my xmas ale followed by a main course of 'the legend'.

Small world indeed! My dad trained them in Ireland back in the 50's & then took to owning & racing them in London in the 80's/90's. More partial to a Beamish (& double brandy ) than a Guinness over Walthamstow on a Tuesday night if memory serves. Anyways Ive got me kilo of medium spraymalt & buzzing to get cracking - just want to have a stout that I can rely on again & again &...

That's bloody incredible! Our Dads may well have known each other! Mine was based at Portsmouth in the 50's and 60's. Had a Lot to do with Ireland, of course. Much of the best blood. " Ballyregan Bob " doesn't sound like a French name, does it? Sadly, Dad was killed before BB came along. But I know a man who knew the Great Dog

After a few comment we exchanged regarding All Grain Guinness and I said I would give the Cooper Stout a whirl.................Ive bought it. I will be doing it to your spec (almost) I have 500g of light DME and 500g of dark DME.............in my experience that will make it medium

In fact; I'd love to be able to take part in a Blind Tasting myself. Better still, I'd like to get the owner and a few of the regulars of my local involved in one! Now That could be interesting!

Honestly, mate; We've barely had two half decent days in a row all this year! It's blowing, wet and miserable out there ~ Again ~ right now.

Been in the FV for one day..done to 20 ltrs with kilo of medium spray malt. Have scooped froth out once & now am resorting to supping it off me fingers every 15 mins or so! Missus kitchen rolls taking a hammering (how many days does it do this?). My first attempt last friday went wrong when the tap on the FV went, pissin black stuff everywhere, tried plumbers tape to trying to plunging me arm into the stuff to tighten nut- but to no avail..other fv had me belgium xmas ale in it so in the end I had to bite the bullet & send me Ditch's down the bath. Zipped out to local shop to get another FV & Coopers. Going as expected(! ) so far but I wont bung a tap in my FV for awhile.
