What Dark Beer to Brew??

Post by shropshire » Mon Aug 10, 2009 4:14 pm

Hi All,
I am new to brewing with kits (only on my 3rd one - wherry which is ok although a little on the cloudy side still after 5 weeks in barrel (any suggestions on how to clear this quicker?, Nog which has gone wrong somehow and currently fermenting Nelson's Revenge)

Can anyone suggest a nice dark beer that I can ferment soon so that it is ready for October time to use from the barrel (not bottled)>
Cheers
Darren

Add finings to the beer to clear it better.
I'd have said the Norfolk Nog is a good dark beer to do, I've recently had one and it's fantastic stuff.

Coopers Dark Ale's another really nice one - be sure to make up with at least 500g medium or dark spraymalt. Very tasty, and may work out a tad cheaper than a 2-can kit (even with the additional spraymalt).

get the camra home brew book, some ingredients , go extract, and make the sarah hughes dark ruby.

it's honestly no harder than kits (considering i see u are already into buying spraymalt )

ignore all business regarding coolers and hot breaks for extract. i boil hops for 90 mins in hop bag in jam pan, and use mix ofliquid and dry malts. never had tangy pint, all cleared beautifully.

Seconded. I only meant to have the one last night, but another two insisted on keeping it company. :=P

Hi,

I have brewed Muntons Premium Gold Conkerwood Ale before and loved it, dark rich and strong with extra medium spraymalt added, yum yum..
