Tom Caxton Kits

Has anyone tried any of these - they've just got some new ones in at my LHBS and thought I might give the Bitter a whirl.

My bro-in-law has just done a Caxton Real Ale and says its coming along great. I have a Yorkshire Bitter in the FV now done to 36 pints, will let you know how it turns out. :beer:

Conditioning: Headcracker, Brewmaker Northumberland Brown, Brewmaker Export Bitter
Drinking: Coopers Euro Lager, Coopers Dark Ale, Hambleton Bard Amber Export, Coopers Aussie Pale Ale, Almondbury Old, Coopers Stout, Wherry w/Chinook

some of them have a sachet of 'isomerised hop extract' that you add to restore the hop character; IMO it's really strong and adding the whole sachet made the result very bitter indeed. About 1/2 to 3/4 of the sachet proved about right for me - but all down to taste of course.

oh eck, I used the lot. if its a bit sharp I'll have to pass it off as an IPA :=P

no, its powdered - maltodextrin infused with hop oil.

I've done the Best Bitter on numerous occasions. It's a good beer. The real ale I didn't like. The dark real ale though is fantastic after 6 months of conditioning. It's amazing the range of flavours that goes through.

I tend to add all the hop sachet and leave to condition for a lot longer than other beer kits. They make fine beer though.
Drinking: Turbo Cider, Black Rain Stout, Jotun Killer Double Stout, Apple Wine, AG#1 F.A.G,
Fermenting: Bramble Wine
Conditioning: Blueberry Jam Mead, Gales Mead, HLM EPIC FORCE Methegln, Tropical Juice TC on an orange mead slurry, AG#2 S.L.A.G.
