Brewferm Diablo

I'm a little confused as to the correct amount of sugar to use for primary fermentation with this 9 litre kit. Also, can it be made up to, say 18 litres at reduced ABV with the same amount of sugar?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. The instructions appear to have been written by a Belgian with a very limited ubderstanding of written English. Mind you, it is much better than my Belgian. :D

Thanks!

My instructions state that for a 9L Diablo kit, you require 500g of sugar for primary fermentation & an additional 90g of sugar for primining when you're about to transfer into the bottles/keg (check the links on how to bottle/prime & the use of a bottling bucket).

If you want to make 18L then simply double up on everything i.e 2 kits, 2x500g of sugar, two lots of water, use both packets of yeast etc & prime with 180g of sugar.

If you increase the volume (9L to 18L), without increasing the fermentables (malt/sugar etc) then it will be a low ABV, with a watered down taste. If you add more sugar, you'll increase the ABV but you'll end up with something that tastes 'watery' with a rough cider type finish.

Doubling the kit is the best option for a longer brew length, this is what I do with their Abbey offering i.e I make a two kit batch around Sept time, which is ready for Xmas, in my mind, Abbey is the best Xmas brew ever.
Fermenting - Nothing
Conditioning - Nothing
Drinking - Tea
Planning - Everything, if only I had the time ... !!
