CO2 - How long does it take?
CO2 - How long does it take?
Hello,
I've injected my keg with CO2 and was wondering how long it takes for it to be absorbed into the beer. At the moment, the beer is flat but there is definitely pressure as it comes out as foam. I've put 2 one second blasts in - the second because the tap wasn't fully closed for the first! Do I need more CO2 or should I just wait?
Cheers!
Bottled - Geordie Bitter
Keg - Geordie Lager

Re: CO2 - How long does it take?
I'm sure someone with a bit more knowledge will be along soon, but it should only take about a week if the keg is chilled. Also have you primed with sugar too or are you just going for a forced carbonation?
Re: CO2 - How long does it take?
I've gone for forced carbonation only, as I didn't realise there was any need to put sugar in if you do it this way. I just assumed it worked like a soda stream where you put the co2 in and its fizzy straight away! Newbie naivety at work! I've put the keg outside in a wheelbarrow full of water in the hope that this will chill it enough to absorb some co2! Is it worth opening the keg and adding sugar then re-pressurising with co2? Wont this cause too much pressure when the sugar ferments?
Cheers!
Cheers!

Reopen the keg and prime it, I don't think force carbing on it's own would be enough with a King Keg, it'll definitely put some carbonation in there, but not sure it'll be enough just on it's own.

I know it's sounds a bit mad, but it works

That's how fridges workthedeckking wrote:Cover the keg in an old towel or sheet. The water will wick up it and evaporate cooling the keg even more.

Do you just put the normal amount in ie 85gEoinMag wrote:Reopen the keg and prime it, I don't think force carbing on it's own would be enough with a King Keg, it'll definitely put some carbonation in there, but not sure it'll be enough just on it's own.

If it's already had a priming and it hasn't worked due to a bad seal or whatever then I'd use the same amount of sugar again yes.
