Re: How's my IPA?
I would move more of the hops to the end of the boil personally, you'll have quite a bitter beer but with not a huge amount of hop aroma and flavour, depends what you're looking for. I would double or triple the last two additions and lower the earlier additions accordingly, age it accordingly and it should be a nice English style IPA

Re: How's my IPA?
Can i ask why youre using 4 different hop varieties? Im sure it will be a good beer but it might be a better idea to try one hop and see how the beer turns out then do it again with 2, etc. Less is more sometimes, rather than a scattergun approach, but its subjective so whatever you choose to do i hope it turns out ok and post back to let us know what it was like.

Re: How's my IPA?
thanks for the advice everyone.
ive made a couple of changes to the hop times and amounts as suggested by mysterio to get more hop aroma and flavour.
as this is a random recipe i did up in a few mins. when i get round to doing it i'll let you know how it turns out. got a few others planned to do first though

the reason is that i wanted to do a brew which used many different varieties as i have never brewed a beer with more than 3 before and i thought this would be the best style of beer to give it a go. scattergun approach is probably the best way to describe itCan i ask why youre using 4 different hop varieties? Re: How's my IPA?
Good luck sam. Im interested in your experiment because ive got a kilo of caramalt that ive yet to use and dont know what it lends to a brew in terms of flavour and colour. i might have a go at your recipe with a single hop just to see, let me know if you do your brew.
Re: How's my IPA?
yer i will let you know when i get round to it.
ive used caramalt before though. im only on my 6 th AG brew so dont have alot to compare to but i found the caramalt to be a little sweet which was nice in my opinion and obviously its very pale in colour. it helped make a very nice summer pale ale.
oh and would you like to share the rusty bucket IPA recipe i see you have in your signature? i also see that you did the london pride. was it from wheelers book? im starting to drink mine now and its ok but im not that impressed really. it could have more to do with my brewing than the recipe but im intrested to know how yours turned out.
cheers

Re: How's my IPA?
cheers for that.
that looks like the sort of recipe i would like. i will half it to 23 litres and add it to the ongoing list
dry hopped my pride in the end just after i kegged it and that added some extra flavour and its turned it into a better beer

Re: How's my IPA?
Sounds nice. How much did you dry hop with, how long and which hop did you use?sam c wrote:cheers for that.

Re: How's my IPA?
20 g goldings added to the keg for 4 days. i put them in a musslim bag so they were easily removed.
at first the flavour it added was quite strong after 4 days so thats why i pulled them out. but since then it has mellowed nicely and i think its given it that extra edge.
