Advice needed - Coopers Australian Pale Lager
Re: Advice needed - Coopers Australian Pale Lager
HMMMM. How much ale do I put in the jar. Am I being stupid but the reading will depend on how much ale is in the jar?
Re: Advice needed - Coopers Australian Pale Lager
I think it dosnt mater if you put it in a trial jar or in a bucket its going to have the same gravity just put some ale in the trial jar ( dont fill to the brim otherwise when you put the hydro it will spill over, just fill it about an inch or so below the top. Put the hydro in make sure its not touching the bottom of the jar (if it is add a bit more ale) all you are doing is suspending it in the ale and then you just read it like the diagram shows
Re: Advice needed - Coopers Australian Pale Lager
just enough ale so that the hydrometer can float freely you dont want the hydrometer sat on the bottom or it will give you a false reading. If you put too much ale in the test jar it may spill over the top but it wont affect your reading.
Re: Advice needed - Coopers Australian Pale Lager
I think you're overcomplicating it, it's as simple as getting the hydrometer to float freely in the beer and taking a reading.
Re: Advice needed - Coopers Australian Pale Lager
All I do is leave the FV for 7 days (presuming ALE yeast used, was in the Cerveza kit I did)), then put the hydrometer into the FV directly (25 litre bucket) and read from there. All I am interested in, is that the primary fermentation has STOPPED, and I can tell that by getting a rough reading from the hydro over 2 days, as long as it hasn't dropped any further then I bottle. I'm not worried about the actual reading being perfect.

Thanks everyone. Should be able to do it now.
