Just ordered this as looked a bargain - May well live to regret that.
This is only my second brew - First was Woodforde's Nelson's Revenge - which I was extremely happy with and finished way too quickly !
However, a couple of questions.
Does the pack come with yeast ? If not what yeast would you recommend.
I am thinking of trying to make it a dark pint by using Moscavado sugar - Good / Bad idea ?
Am I ok at bottling this in cleaned out 2 litre Plastic Lemondade/Coke bottles and if I do, will Ihave to releasse the pressure every so often ? If so, how often ?
Lastly, any recommendations for a cheap but reasonable pint to be ready for Xmas ?
Many thanks for help.
Young's Definitive Bitter
Re: Young's Definitive Bitter
IMO, these kits are pretty bad when brewed as per the instructions ie 25L, 1kg hopusehold sugar.....thin, weak, very little bitterness, and no hop aroma at all........bleuuuuuurgh.
BUT!!!
They do make a reaonable (and pretty cheap!) base for a modified recipe.
eg use 1kg medium spraymalt, plus up to about 150g sugar (muscovado will leave a nice residual flavour)
add 'hop tea' liquor (do a forum search), and make up to around 20L.
I wrote a previous post with a more complete recipe (again: do a forum search) - or have a look in the 'recipes' section.
