leaking tap

Hi i am new to brewing and have recently barrelled my first brew , yesterday evening. However on coming home tonight i noticed it had leaked around a tea spoon of beer , will this ruin my brew!! i have tightened the tap now!!!

I doubt this will matter too much. Brewing in my short experience has been very forgiving.

No, it will be fine. The only thing that could have ruined it was oxygen. The barrel is under pressure, so no O2 would have got in there. I would be more worried about losing a teaspoonful of beer

There will have been so much pressure inside the barrel trying to get out that no air will have gotten in. You'll be fine.

Is it a budget barrel ? If so I have had this problem LOADS. Make sure you smear vaseline on the seal next time (if you didn't). Also, if it has a standard cap, the pressure release valves are rubbish. If they don't release excess pressure, the pressure will find the weakest point to escape, the tap seal. I've upgraded to CO2 caps now, and use PTFE tape on the taps, when I can be bothered. I bottle my brews now, into 1 and 2 ltr plastic bottles.

Yes, that one caught me out as well yonks ago. Don't fully close the tap on a budget barrel.

yes the tap fully rotated appeared to be the problem!!! have adjusted and the leak stopped!As for the pressure release i believe the s30 co2 valve has this inbuilt . Well i hope so as there is no other place it can go!!

Correct. Worth checking that the rubber on the outside of the valve hasn't stuck to the brass. Use a small flat bladed screwdriver and carefully prise the rubber away from the valve.

I have just noticed the seal on my tap is leaking slightly. There is one day old Coppers Stout in there. WOuld transfering it to another barrell cause any problems. Would just borrowing it in be ok or should I siphon it off?

Transfer it to another keg, or seal that one and reprime it, unless there's still a good bit of primer left in it.

All done. Hopefully it will be ok. It tasted very nice when I siphoned through. I have added a bit of extra primer just incase.
