Brewday 16/09/09 Kentish Harvest Bitter

Post by mysterio » Wed Sep 16, 2009 9:34 am

Back to uni tomorrow after a 4 month break  This is my fourth and last year so 4 month breaks are a thing of the past :!:

Nothing for it but to get a brew on

Not only did Subsonic send me a generous portion of hand picked Fuggles from Kent (which smell amazing), he was also kind enough to send me 9 kilos of MO and a kilo of Crystal to make a batch! What a guy!

Why didn't I have friends with 12 gallon breweries when I was at university?

Eh. you think i'm sharing this?

Either my pump or transformer is knackered :? , so i'm using an underback system at the moment, just tipping the wort into the copper manually.

And, one of the kettle elements is knackered too, boil is going at a snails pace :|

Good point chris i'll unscrew the head, proabably all sorts living in there

Oblivious, re-pitching some British Ale yeast from white labs

Pump head was fine, I don't think it would have been a problem as it's magnetically coupled. Probably (hopefully) the transformer.

Got some wild efficiency with this grain, I think it was a finer crush than my usual. Ended up with 13 - 14 gallons, wasn't fun carrying that up the stairs

That sucks.

Well only one more year for you, then you'll be able to get a decent job. I still have 5 and a bit to go at least....

Sad times.

On a more positive note. Fancy bottling one, and we can do a two bottle swap?

The thought of doing 5 more years would both delight and terrify me in equal measures.

I'll bottle one of these for you when its ready. I know I said i'd give you a brown ale but i'm not altogether impressed with the hops I used. I was expecting a decent hoppy kick (100g of late Glacier hops in a 5g batch), but the hops are non existent. It tastes, and looks a lot like Black Cat Mild, which is nice but a little underwhelming.

Well its up to you. But I am up for swaping anything.

Just so that I can have another brewer have a look at what i have made.
