Cooper's Stout in a cornie.

Post by Operator » Mon Sep 28, 2009 6:46 pm

Like most people here I love the cooper's stout, the last brew I did went into a king keg but it kept leaking no matter what I did so after a few weeks I transfered it into a cornie and gave it a hit of co2/n2 and it turned out great. This time I've racked after it finished fermenting into a keg to clear before sticking it the cornie.

My question is how long should I leave it to clear before it goes in the cornie? I don't use finings and I've not been using cornies that long. Any advice,as always, gratefully received!

:| Personally speaking; I don't really 'drink with my eyes' and so hardly ..... well, Don't give any thought to the clarity of a pint of black stuff, to be honest with ye.

This is not to say ye may not have some personally compelling reason for wanting it some other way.

Again; These 'Cornie's' are well off my chart. No real idea what they're all about.

Not being much use to ye, am I? Except to suggest that ye just do what ever ye feel ~ or get advised ~ what might be right. Give it a try and see what ye think. After all, at the end of the day, we drink what we drink how We like it, don't we? I don't prime my kegs. I don't do 'secondary FV's'. I make it. Drink it. Love it. As long as ye loving ye results? Achieve them as ye see fit, surely? :)

Its all personal preference really. I have found one week primary, 1 week secondary to be fine. The advantage of the corny, to me anyway, is that you are not carbonating with yeast which means you can leave it as long as you want. Gonna try leaving my next brew in secondary for a month, a la GW's book. Will let you know.

I also enjoy not washing bottles.
