Please help me put this to bed

Ok my m8 is starting brewing he went into a home brew shop today and was xhatting with the owner. The owner told him he could halve a wherry kit and make 1 can upto to 20 pints and the other can to 20 pints later on.

I said i dont think it would turn out right as the kit is designed to be made together or at least thats how i see it. So what i want to know is if you did make it up to 20 pints using just one of the cans would it taste the same, would it be weaker, would you need to bulk it up with fermentables?

Thanks for reading :).

I think both cans are identical so you could brew 2 x 20 pint batches if you want to. You'll have to get another packet of yeast though.

The contents of the cans are identical, so it could be done. The question has to be asked though, what's the point of doing it? Sooner or later, you would want to make the other 20 pints, so why not do it in one go?

AHA, there could be some method in the home brew's shop madness. If you do make the cans seperatly in 20 pint batches, when you come to do the second one, you won't have the yeast as you will have used it in the 1st 20 pint brew. Then you will have to go back to the home brew shop & buy a sachet of yeast from them, or I am I being cynical here.

Maybe lol i would of thought you would only be rewing half a wherry though by halving the kit but i stand corrected :)
