AG#54 Horns Swagger

Post by haz66 » Sat Oct 10, 2009 1:32 pm

Due to a rather unexpected chance to get a brew on, i`m a bit low on my Malt stocks, as i`m
off to Barley Bottom tomorrow to restock, so i`ve had to improvise a little today, but going along
the lines of my Hornswaggle in terms of hop schedule, and this is what i`ve cobbled together.

2230g MO Pale
1270g Lager Malt
350g Caramalt
100g Flaked Barley
25g Amber
35g Styrian @ 60mins AA 3.7%
20g Styrian @ 20 mins AA 3.7%
10g Styrian @ 10 mins AA 3.7%
11g S04

Target is 23ltrs @ 75% Eff = OG1039
BU:GU 0.52 IBU`s 20.27

i know it seems low but it does actually taste very nice.

Mash is only just underway and i`m going out at 7.30pm so i`ve got a busy afternoon ahead
as i also need to bottle a brew so i have an FV for this one :D
Ok i`d better get a move on.

is Horn Swagger a commercial ale?
Does that 25g of Amber Malt make much of a difference?
:)

I`m not sure if its a commercial one or not i just called it that as its a
similar brew to my Hornswaggle.

I only put the Amber in just to darken it a tad, not for any flavour as i have no Crystal left
and wanted it to be darker than just Pale/Barley and Caramalt, it seems to have worked though
its now boiling away and looks quite dark for only the small amount added.

ahh, OK
The 500g I put in a brew on Friday looks like it has given it a very distinctive dry flavour. Have to wait and see mind :)

Jeez 500g that is gonna taste burnt.
I once put 150g in a brew and i couldn`t drink it, but my mates dad loved it
i guess its all down to personnal taste, i prefer the IPA`s and Blond type Ales
