Graham's Brakspear bitter with new boiler + cooler

Post by Bobba » Mon Jun 29, 2009 11:03 pm

This follows from my last post on my newly constructed kit...

OK so it's an extract brew. Limited on space currently, can't be building a mash tun as well, at least not quite yet!

Image
crystal malt

Image
black malt for colour

Image
tasty challenger hops

Image
beautiful rolling boil in now time! Didnt time it but it couldnt have been twenty mins before I had it frothing over the rim and oozing down the washing machine

Image
in goes the cooler and there's all the plumbing

Image
there's the styrian golding aroma post boil hops after cooling slightly. in fact the cooler did such a good job i totally blasted past 80C and down to 50C before i got the hops in

Image
pitchable in under 20 mins, so down it drops into the fermenter

Image
getting the last drops out with the aid of a syphon tube

Image
hop filter worked beautifully and practically no wort remaining

Image
happy with that, bit higher than the recipe suggested

Image
here's the starter solution. I got this going a bit late, so pitched two bottles into the starter. The first was my last remaining brakspear oxford gold (not bottle conditioned now) and the other was my last batch, Timmy Tays, which I also brewed up from oxford gold

Image
finally the immersion heater, not that it's really needed this time of year

looking forward to the results! :=P

The mango chutney boiler is so cool. That's proper recycling for you. Now I'm thinking of a room full of mango chutney Burton unions ...

You can get them here for £3.5 plug £8.50 postage http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0182776299
The handles are rock solid and I think they'd make great fermenters also.

The cooler is insane. I honestly didnt expect it to cool so quickly! Totally overshot 80C......was distracted with the steaming hot water coming out the hose to notice the temperature plummet!

I mailed this guy last week and asked if it was viable that one of these could be sent to norway. to no avail.

It is usually not the size that is the limitation regarding cost but the weight.
How uch would one of these things weigh?

thanks

It doesn't weigh very much. Maybe a couple of kilos? Sounds like he can't be arsed to sort out the shipping. There should be some others selling very similar containers on there. Alternatively, you could scope local restaurants as they may well have some?

they only have the ones that are lik 150 liters plus. I omly need one around 35.

I have found some here from a suplier, but it says that they are only suitable in the temp range -40 to 80 degrees...
