Hillbilly lager

Post by Horden Hillbilly » Sun Jan 07, 2007 1:41 pm

Hi everyone,

I was up bright & early this morning (5:00am!) to set this away, here is the link to the recipe. http://jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2562

No glitches or problems to report, went smooth from start to finish, set recipe at 1042, achieved 1041 & I am certainly not going to grumble about that!

My eldest son took some pictures with his cameraphone at the later stages, he does not share my enthusiasm for early morning rises!

Agreed :D
Surprisingly compact - do you have to use a high flow rate for the cooling water in order to cool sufficiently?
If I had known that one so small could do a good enough job, I would have probably made one that size myself instead of my larger one as I can see it being easier to handle for cleaning etc...

I bought the CFC from H&G about 10 years ago at the same time as I bought all my ag equipment, I have had no problems lowering the temp to a safe pitching temp, although I do have to run the cold water at a fast rate during warmer weather, ie June/September, I don't brew at the height of summer as I can't ferment cool enough even up here in the frozen north!

I always make sure that I am well stocked up though, this brew is destined for bottles which will be drank during the summer months.

I have just checked the brew & there is a few white flecks on the surface, temp 16c, all looks well.
