Well done to everyone who managed to get a brew on over the weekend, i had to cancel mine due to work commitments.

In penance my v. next brew will be a jims guidelines anniversary ale.

Great thread!

I hope to brew again one evening later this week. It wouldn't have been popular brewing over the weekend with house guests...

The WLP037 yeast never did anything, so sadly it's back to good old SO4. Should still be a nice beer, but I wanted the Yorkshire yeast to make it proper Northern like Jim. I did the whole brew in a Northern accent too.
Maybe we should wear a flat cap when drinking our beers

Oi! There's no stereotyping going on here......my wife's from Wigan I'll have you know....and I've been there. More than once.

I didn't even mention the wooden shoes, the staple pie diet or the fact that they all live in mud huts.

Right then - first update on the JBK anniversary brew from me. Finished at 1013 (from 1046) after a fortnight and a bit in the fermenter. Starting to drop clear so bottled the lot the other night ( :out ). Taste from the sample jar indicates there's a good fuggley loveliness coming from the 15min addition 8)

Just had a sneaky taste of my http://jimsbeerkit.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... 24&t=26994 brew...
Quite promising, nice and dark has some liquorice in there which must be from the Dark Crystal Malt, nice and drinkable...
If anything I think the Burton yeast just leaves a slight bite of bitterness in the finish.

:)

Here's a pint of my finished Jim's Dark Horse ESB:

Dark, a bit toasty with hints of licorice.
