Well, I thought I would put it to the test.
I found a litte stubby bottle that had not been rinsed and had a liitle mould on the inside base.
I put it over one of the spikes on the bottom rack of the disher and set it off on a 50c cycle, with the other dishes.
When it finished, I checked the bottle out, but the mould was still there.
So, if it couldn't deal with a short bottle, I cannot see it making a good job of a tall, thin one that had not alrady been given a through clean.
Sanitising Bottles
Re: Sanitising Bottles
I have one King Keg, the rest of my beer is bottled, it's a pain but I'm not in a position to go corny keg just yet.
Rinse bottles as soon as you've used them, store upside down in a box.
When it's time to use them, spray inside with a no-rinse sanitiser, shake and then drain, place bottles upside down in an old fermenting bucket so that they drain completely, I tend to do this the day before using them.
Fill with beer and cap.

Re: Sanitising Bottles
The bottle tree is a godsend especially when its used with the rinser for sanitising...
A good purchase methinks

Re: Sanitising Bottles
I've had no contamination issues with using the dishwasher, but I always sanitise beforehand :
when I get a collection of bottles together, I put a small amount of household bleach in each bottle, fill with hot water, and leave to steep in a sink with more hot water and fairy liquid (to help release labels, and leave for 30 mins or so.
Then just rinse thouroughly, check each bottle for sediment and stand neck down in plastic storage box in the garage.
On bottling day I just pop 30 or so in the dishwasher neck down for a full cycle, leave to cool, then rack into the bottles.
Last two batches, Black Sheep Riggwelter and Arkells 3B have been in the bottle over 3 months, and just seem to keep improving!
I'm not sure how effective the dishwasher is, but certainly seems to work for me!

Re: Sanitising Bottles
I sanitize my bottles with vwp but I'm always nervy about rinsing out thoroughly with tap water.
If I sanitise, then pop them straight into the dishwasher do you think the vwp will get rinsed out effectively or do WE think that it would be more advisable to rinse the cleaner out first then use the dishwasher to kill any nasties that may have been present in the tap water?
Thanks for your thoughts.

Re: Sanitising Bottles
Hmm tough one, as yes there are bugs in tap water but I wouldnt worry too much about them...its more if you are using tap water to dilute your FV that sort of thing..
Im definately not convinced on the dishwasher setup. I know it works for some people but I have just put 30 bottles through 2 different DW (one a lab one with spikes as well!) and neither have a; removed the labels and b; removed the mould and bugs inside..(these were freebies from harviestoun brewery, been sat outside for long while).
IMHO I would soak heavily soiled bottles in cleaner steriliser or caustic to remove protein etc and then sanitise, Ive bought one of those amazing rinser doo dahs so I fill that with sodium metabisulphite, 3 squirts and then drain...fill with beer...
This works so far....for me anyway

If you want to go the machine route, one of theses will do the trick...
