muntons kit?
muntons kit?
hi all,im doing a muntons premiumgol kit. smugglers ale , but after two weeks in the fermentation bucket its still making enough gas to make the lid bulge! is this ok? can i bottle when its like this?
Re: muntons kit?
The best way to be sure is to use a hydrometer. When you get 2 readings the same, 24 hrs apart it's ready.
Is the lid loose - does it have an airlock? If not, let the gas out by just cracking the lid open. After two weeks it should be ready though.

Re: muntons kit?
The lid shouldn't be bulging at all - did you snap it on all the way round? If so, don't! The build-up of CO2 will eventually pop it right off and could be messy. I only snap the lid on my FV about halfway round so it still stops things getting in and the gas can still escape.
Fermentation shouldn't take 2 weeks, unless your FV is kept somewhere quite cold which will inhibit it. Before you bottle, take a hydrometer reading (if you have one) and as long it's somewhere around 1.012 or below, it should be OK to bottle. If you don't have a hydrometer, I suggest getting one - they're relatively cheap and are an essential tool in the homebrewer's kit.
