English Ale(with pics!)

Post by Whorst » Thu Nov 12, 2009 4:14 pm

I've brewed this before and it was wonderful. This time I'm adding 28g of medium toast American Oak to the fermenter. I am steaming the chips before I add them. I'll add some pictures later.

7 lb US 2-row (67%)
2 lb Marris Otter (17%)
.75lb Munich Malt 10L (7%)
.75lb Crystal 80L (6%)
.25lb Crystal 120L or 150L (2%)
2oz chocolate or 1oz black malt

1/2 oz Magnum 13.6%AA @ 60 min
1 oz EKG 5.3%AA @ 30 min
1 oz EKG 5.3%AA @ 5 min
2 oz Styrian Goldings 5.2%AA @ 5 min
O.G. 1.050
F.G. 1.010-1.012

Big, healthy starter of WLP005

Nice starter of WLP-005. Soon to be my house strain, but I will use UK-05 periodically.

Pitched yeast at 65F. Pretty much spot on 1.050. I dropped 28g of American Oak Chips(medium toast) into the fermenter before transferring wort. Should be an interesting beer.

Fermentation appears to be strong and healthy. The American Oak Chips look interesting in the foam.

Right at this moment in time Styrians are my absolute favourite.

My last brew was made with 100 grams of mainly styrians ( and a little bobek)

Smalls like a sitrus forest at the moment and i am looking forwad to seeing how this mellows when i bottle it at the weekend.
