My Muntons Winter Warmer has stuck at 1020 and tastes sweet. I have racked it into another FV and added more yeast then kegged it and it hasn't moved.

Half the time Wherry is a lovely pint which is clear a week after bottling. The other 50% of the time it's still cloudy after eight weeks and doen't taste as nice.

It's strange drinking a cloudy eight week Wherry followed a lovely clear 3 weeker!

The mistake in my opinion is people not leaving the Muntons kits in the FV long enoughl, ferment times are much too short and they don't attenuate as quickly as crappy kits with white sugar added.
Are they bad? No, I've never had an issue with Woodfordes and I leave them a few weeks in the fermenter. Time is what's missing, with people bottling after a few days and not letting the yeast do it's job.

The wherrys are a great kit sidney ive done prob 6 since the summer and have'nt had a problem they are made by muntons and seemed to be the one everybody had a problem with when i started reading the site so i held off from doing them.

Ive used so4 yeast and always put a tsp of yeast vit in, the one i have on at the moment was made with the kit yeast and it as gone fine so depending on the taste i might just stick with the standard in future, give one ago dont think you will be dissapointed.

The standard yeast supplied with kits made by Muntons is S-04 made by Fermentis. I was lucky enough to be part of an East Anglian CBA tour around the Muntons plant in Stowmarket. We were guided around the various departments by the senior managers responsible. It was a superb tour and very educational.

At the end of the tour, once the H&S and protective clothing was off we were given a malt-based lunch with malt-based drinks (not what you think!) and as I sat opposite the manager responsible for the liquid malts and kits etc I mentioned the problems posted on Jims Beer Kit concerning Muntons kits not getting down to the right FG.

His response was that there had been a batch of kits that were supplied with sachets of yeast that had holes in them causing the yeast to degrade. When I suggested that larger amounts of yeast would produce more consistent results he said that in laboratory tests 3g of S-04 had effected fermentation :? .

Anyway, as I no longer use kits I let it drop. If you do get a chance to go on a tour of the plant at Stowmarket grab it. They put a lot of time and effort into the tour. The more cynical might think it's just PR, but I left with a lot of admiration for Muntons: they make stuff in England and export it all over the world. Could do with more of this sort of thing to help pay off Gordon's financial black hole :)

I have recently only been bottling a week after the SG has stopped dropping. Should I leave it even longer?

I checked my Nelsons Revenge this morning which was bottled a week ago and it's cloudy as hell. I assume there is nothing I can do about it at this stage?

I agree. Need to be left in the FV 10-14 days for best results even when the temperature is 22-24C.

i agree chris brewers choice kits seem to be the best i think the next step should be extract or all grain after a few more kits under my belt i fell this will give me more control over my final product ..
