Woodforde Wherry sugar questions

Post by Derbybrewer » Sun Nov 22, 2009 1:17 pm

Hi,

I'm brand new here and only on my 4th brew so here comes the dumb question.

All of the kits so far have required me to add 1kg of sugar at first fermentation. The Wooforde's Wherry kit I got started on today has no mention of adding sugar except to add the 1/2 teaspoon per bottle at bottling stage.

Is that correct or should it be obvious to me that I need to add 1kg sugar at first fermentation stage?

Help appreciated.

No sugar needed my mate as it is a 2 can kit, just bottle it with the amount they say or keg it with 80g of sugar.

Thanks very much. Panic over.

Does anyone know how long this kit is best left botted for?

I suppose the longer the better but a minimum would be useful since I want to drink it at Christmas :D

Cheers

Well I try and leave it as long as possible which is usually a minimum of 3 months so imo xmas may be a bit soon but I am sure others have sampled it as soon as it is clear!

You have all these good intentions... but you can't resist!

Most of mine has gone before three months is up, and if I'm particularly desperate, some of it doesn't make it to the end of the week!

The flavour of wherry changes over time, its very nice after three or four weeks if on the sweet side, becoming drier and more bitter after six to eight weeks. either way more than drinkable, particularly if you don't mind it a little cloudy. :)
