Scared!!

Post by crookedeyeboy » Mon Nov 23, 2009 1:24 pm

I would love to show you lovely people some photos of my brewdays, especially the last one as it was soooo relaxed!, but I am very superstitious!

My one and only (so far fingers crossed etc etc) AG I have had to commit to the dank depths of the sewers was the only one I photgraphed and put on here...RIP AG#2 TT Landlord. You will be sadly missed.

So as you can see I have a bit of a dilemma, well I will just have to document the next one and put it up and see if it is jinxed again...

Don't - be - so - Stupid! #-o   ha ha ha
Better hope for a black cat crossing your path, no broken mirrors, at least two magpies, watch out for ladders (though there is some sense in that) :)

You have to develop your own ritual. Sacrificing a virgin works for me.

Actually, technically, they can't.

But, anyway, superstitions

I would go with Vacant. Develop a series of rituals that ward off evil: wear lucky socks, intone the names of the ingredients, invoke the name of the beer god as you pitch the yeast, sprinkle sanctified water on the fermenting vessel (I find starsan to be a suitable libation).

The rational part of me wants to be a scientific reductionist atheist. The irrational part of me wants to be an animist. I use rigourous sanitation methods and watch my numbers like a hawk, but at cooling time I break open a homebrew to bless the endeavour. In case the beer god's watching (which he/she/it almost certainly is)

I don't post photos because I can't be arsed to ;) I don't need superstition. I rely on science instead. Branches of science such as Physical Chemistry which tell me that using excessive amounts of chloride cleaner is just going to make it harder to rinse properly. Branches of science such Biochemistry and Microbiology which tell me that very, very few organisms can survive in wort which is why people have been able to make beer for thousands of years without all the fancy stainless steel vessels and sanitising chemicals. Science shows me how to work with Nature not poison her.
Best wishes
