Styrian Goldings in a Helles?

Post by flytact » Tue Nov 24, 2009 6:20 pm

I'm brewing up a helles (mostly as a yeast source for a maibock) and wanted to get opinions on hopping.
Currently the schedule is simply some Magnum during the boil for an IBU of about 20.
How would a bit of Styrians hold up as a late add? Maybe a 5 or a 2 minute addition for some aroma?
Would it be awful in a helles?

Better if your lates were noble hops like Saaz, or Hallertau or Tettnang? Styrians won't give you a Helles clone exactly...

Yeah... I don't think it will be right to be honest. It is a very 'ale-ish' type of hop. I would prefer to use no late hops if it came to it.

That's what I wanted to hear. Thanks. I'll save the Styrians for something in the spring.
