just broached a caxtons ale (25 days in the barrel) that unfortunately manged to get fried by my heater belt upto 27c, now have immersion heater. It is clear, tastes of bland beer but there is a faint tang to it on the roof of me mouth that does not taste fresh and not tasted before.
In the interests of proper scientific experimentation I finished that pint and now have a fresh one and it is still there but much less noticeable but then again so are my eyebrows. It could be that I finished my Wherry off and this is p155 by comparison. But I did not dechlorinate the water either. and as mentioned at the top the temp was way too high so could be fusel oils.
Anyone know what fusel alcohol tastes like?
fusel oils?
Boiling only removes chlorine, not chloramine. You need either a suitable filter or the 1/2 campden tablet to remove chloramine.alexander taipan wrote:I boil all my water, does that dechlorinate? the only time i didn't boil i got an infected brew. Not to say it was the water as i made a few mistakes (no1 drinking about 10 pints before i started) but i just kept boiling after that.
bugger somhow deleted the last relpy which was obviously droll, dry with just a touch of sardonism.Caxtons is a one can kit, did you make it up with sugar? This will result in a bland beer with what people will often describe as a cidery twang.
beer tastes same but roof of mouth tang. still better than the pig swill been drinking tonight under I am ashamed to say the titles broadside and 6X, two beers I really like but have been bastardized by my landlord.
When my cheap kits best his cellar he should shoot himself.... oh I'm in south essex he will get shot anyhow.
