I've recently started a Brewferm Pils Kit, and with the house circa 15 degrees because I'm too tight to put the heating on, I used a pack of Saflager S-23 as the blurb on the pack said it's good to go at cooler temps.
However I'm now left with the yeast that came with the tin which has "INB A" printed on it. A quick google and I'm none the wiser - Anyone out there know what this yeast is?

I can't help with what "INB A" stands for but reading the Brewferm instructions and the recommended fermentation temp for the supplied yeast I'd bet on it being an ale yeast of some description.

Hi JT
how did your Brewferm Pils turn out using the S-23?
I'm planning on doing the Pils kit with 1kg candi sugar light and some Brewferm genuine lager yeast (purchased seperately)....
I also have the yeast slurry from a Coopers Lager where I used 2 packs of S-23 (!) @ 12C
Slainte!

Do you think that perhaps the yeast is in a generic package and is actually this?

Hi
That photo is a packet of the yeast I bought seperately and looking at the back of it the batch code is very different from the yeast packet that came with the kit.
the kit yeast has a 3 letter code on it, the genuine lager yeast a series of three numbers followed by three more numbers
Also as someone also mentioned in this thread the kit instructions suggest fermenting at 20-25C which suggests the kit yeasts are Ale yeasts....
whereas the instructiosn for the brewferms own lager yeast is rehydrate at ~30C then pitch at 20 and allow to drop to 12-15C
Not conclusive but to me that indocates the kit yeast is an ale strain(?) I'm happy to be corrected on this tho'...

Apologies to the manx - I never did see your post ages ago asking how the Brewferm Pils went.......
......or perhaps I subconsciously blanked the disaster from my memory as this was my first (and hopefully only ever) batch of bottle bombs. My previos brew, a bitter had been a bit on the flat side, so being as I like a bit of fizz in my summer lager / foreign beer type brews I added 160g of brewing sugar for the secondary. Luckily they were in the coal house but when the weather warmed up at the start of June they started to explode. Planned to crack the lids to release the pressure but several beer fountains later I found myself draining the ends of bottles into a ploypin to salvage what I could - tasted ok though !

Hi JT!
Thanks for the reply...
Note to self- dont over prime the Pils....
I'll be bottling into 450ml Grolsch Swing-tops I'll probably bulk prime with 80-100g sugar...
I'll keep it at 12c for a week then refigerate it at 5-8C (old fridge and thats the best it can manage!
