DISASTER WITH BARREL O BEER

Post by stikkiniki » Sat Nov 28, 2009 9:04 pm

Hello,

I am a newbie to forums, & have just done my first bit of homebrewing for 20years....i used to do it in bottles, but thought i'd go down the barrel route this time. went to try it today & 1/2pt came out lush, then stopped , so i thought i'd open the barrel to see if the filter pipe had got caught....OOPS! ....i used a sterile stirrer to make sure all was working & free....anyways.... i read the gas info again, n realised that the natural pressure of fermentation gases probably stopped after only 1/2 pint AGH! have i wasted the beer by opening it briefly, or will it keep, is there anything i can do to prolong the life of the barrel o beer coz i cannae drink that fast, specially not on a sunday ....even with lossa friends!! Please help, or do i put it down to experience? chrs. [-o<

No panic, mate. Get a CO2 accepting lid for the barrel and get some CO2 in there ASAP. But, if ye manage that by early in the week ~ and leave things alone till then? Should be alright.

Don't have nightmares
