I'm sure it will be fine to be honest to use the fun stuff. It's all lube at the end of the day and its only to try and make it air tight.

Do you have any Vicks Vaporub? It might taint the beer somewhat, but will give you a useful "breathe easy" winter beer if you're ill.

If it were me and there was no petroleum jelly (and if I actually had a lid that wasn't broken  ), I would try a bit of vegetable oil on some kitchen roll and then wipe it round the barrel threads, but don't overdo it. [-X

PRSMKFC; (Can't we call you 'Mike', or something?) KY is water based and thus soluble. It's also thus very prone to simple evaporation. I wouldn't really recommend it for longer term use as a lubricant in the situation ye proposing, mate. Vaseline works because it's thicker and 'greasy'.

Yeah it doesnt abbreviate well, maybe Raynor, Raynes, Pauly R, KFC, Liberated Chicken, etc.

well I plumped for the love lube and I suppose it will do for a tempoary solution, but yes it is definately more water based than greasy,

To be honest I am not overly concerned about the O ring as that seemed pretty well greased from a previous using, not by me.

Vicks Vapourub is an interesting solution, do you think it would get rid of our lass's cold if I used it later?

Well, Ditch and his infinate wisdom wins thru, have conditioned warm for a week and couldn't get a drip out when testing.

Gave it a buzz of gas and it was hissing out of somewhere, scientific ear against the barrell test suggests it was coming from the lid. On inspection, although the 'O' ring remained well greased, the thread was as dry as a nuns naughty bits.

greased with the proper stuff, another whizz of co2 and bingo, no hissing,

Now my question is, how much sugar do I reprime with?
