Mouldy beer?

Post by scott_wilson46 » Thu Dec 10, 2009 8:46 pm

Hi,
I apologize if this question gets asked a lot on this forum but I don't know who else to turn to. Basically, I bought a brupak beer kit and sterilized all my equipment as fully as I could possibly do. I have left the beer in a dark place for a week to ferment and when I peeked at it today there was some crud on the top of the container and I wondered if it was mould. THe beer smells a little bit like sick too. I took a picture of the beer so someone could tell me whether its gone mouldy or not. The picture was took with a flash so ignore some of the white bits in the picture (the mould is more of a browny colour really).
Cheers,

It's always hard to tell from a photo, but that looks like a normal fermentation around the 3 day plus stage. If you are not used to the smell it can be a little of putting. It can be a little yeasty or just the CO2, Have a taste abd see what you think. ....No hint of vinegar?........carry on there is nothing to lose.

 Pretty much what Trucker just said. Ten minutes ago I gave a mate a swift look at a couple of my own FV's. The one containing my pretty well fermented out Coopers Dark Ale looks just like that

Dead easy to test it. Draw off a splash and drink it. If it makes ye go " Hmmmmm ..... " ? Nothing wrong with it. If it makes ye go " Aaaagh; Jeeeezuss.....!!! " and spit it across the room? 'Houston .....'

Hi,
Thanks for the swift replies everyone. I transferred it from that container into another one ready for secondary fermentation and tasted it at the same time. It tastes fine.
Cheers,
Scott
