Wherry head

Post by jimny14 » Tue Dec 15, 2009 7:55 pm

I've been doing a Wherry kit recently, was happy how it fermented out stopped down at 1012. Its been bottled for a couple of weeks now, n I just couldn't resist finding out how its improving, just poured one out n its clearing nicely, and has the amount of fizz I was aiming for (didn't put too much sugar in, cos I don't like a fizzy fizzy beer). Quick question as this is the first Wherry i've attempted, its hardly got a head on it at all, n it goes very quickly. I quite like the taste of this beer (well hoping the metallic taste will mellow out, but should do over next few weeks i'm guessing). Is there anything I can do next time to this beer to make it get a better head? Hope someone can help. Cheers James

It probably has more to do with your glasses and using a dishwasher with rinse aid. Rinse your glass really well with just water before you use it and see does that improve the head retention, it should do.

If the beer is coming out of the fridge too cold this could suppress the carbonation. Try sitting a bottle out at room temp for 10 min before you poor it.
Something else I've found is that my brew room (my wife calls it the utility  ) is a bit colder at htis time of year so I have to leave my brews a bit longer to get a decent secondary fermentation.
Hope this helps.

i agree with both the above posts
i had problems with head on my beer
until i rinsed my glass well and waited ten minutes before i cracked a bottle
iam sure there is a product called creamy top witch may help if the above cant
it might just need more time.....

hope this helps..

Thanks, guys, i'll give it some extra time, n warm it up a bit before cracking the next bottle. Thanks for the advice. I;ll see how it is in a couple of weeks. Cheers everyone.

My Wherry has been the only beer I've done that actually has had a good head to the final sup but this was from my keg.
