Some new gear

Post by Jim » Mon Jan 15, 2007 6:44 pm

In a shock move, I've bought a beer engine and a shiny 33l pot to make into a boiler.

The beer engine was sold as a 'Cider Pump' but I'm guessing that the actual device is the same - it also seems to have a cooling jacket on the cylinder.

All I need now is a tap for the boiler and a drip tray and sparkler and some beer line! Wahay!!!

Oh, and although I own the above items, I haven't actually got them yet.

Yup! 8)

Just over £13 for the pump (+£12.50 P&P) and £27 for the stockpot, p&p for that £14.

I think (hope!) the pump is a good deal - the description 'cider pump' may have put some bidders off.

Great deal on the pump Jim, I keep seeing them but they are a bit pricey for my budget. Yes, I too will be interested to see it in action and how you connect it up etc. It looks like it has a water cooling jacket on?

nice shiney pot also

There are some pump sellers on there to avoid. I've been watching them since before Xmas, and a number of them have suspect bid histories (such as the same users bidding 6 of 7 times in succession on the items without competing bids). The same user names come up in the bid histories time and time again.

Same user appearing in a bid list happens if you raise your max bid.

But why would you do that if no one was bidding against you?

So you got the 33L one ;) Nice. I was watching the 100L and the 33L and missed the end of both! Arse! Fortunately they come up regularly. They're the cheapest large capacity steel pots I've seen so far. Did you see the 'Thermobox' insulated steel pot in the 'seller's other items' list? I wonder how good a mashtun that would make. Probably constructed like a steel thermos with added insulation between the walls. I've asked them questions about temperature stability at 65c. Awaiting reply.

Three reasons

(1) he's a twat
(2) He's a mate of the seller, and is ramping up the price in collusion with the seller.
(3) He's both of the above.

Amazing deal on the beer engine, i would be expecting to pay £40 exc postage for one. I'm still looking for one around the 20-30 mark :(
