Post by Deebee » Wed Dec 30, 2009 11:21 pm

I made this a while ago from the b b kit.
It was great but not as bitter as i remember.
Does anyone have åm ibu for it? I also wonder he i could change the fuggles for something like target Or would this mess the taste up?thanks

According to this, about 30 IBUs - not sure how accurate it is.
Kegged: 'Nowt
Bottled: Summer Lightning, Belfast Ale, JPA, Guinness Foreign Export

Why not go to Barley Bottom website and check the AA% of the Fuggles and Bobek that Paul sells
then run the recipe through your prefered beer software.

4.00 kg Maris Otter
0.20 kg Crystal Malt
0.20 kg Barley, Flaked
0.20 kg Wheat, Torrefied

56.00 gm Fuggles 90 min AA 3.9%
28.00 gm Bobek 15 min AA 5.2%

Infact i`ve just run it through for you
The target OG for 23 litres at 75% efficiency is 1045.94
Total IBUs: 33.24
BU:GU Ratio: 0.72

Thanks very much.
I åm just waiting for some barley them i will be making another batch.
The last one suffered a stuck sparge and i only ended up with 15 l in the fv. This had åm og of 1052 though so i guess this is why the i b u was maybe lower than 33.
Thanks again.

I made something along the lines of Bitter & Twisted modifying the BB recipe to include some Mt Hood as a Hallertauer substitute since the Harvistoun website says they use Hallertauer as well as styrians. From my results I'd definitely stick some hallertauer in the mix if you have some to hand. I also used Pilot instead of Fuggles and it came out quite nice (although not bang on the taste of bitter & twisted). My IBU was 47 for a target of OG 1053 and it isn't overly bitter. The actual OG was lower and I ended up with a beer around 4.4%.

However both the pilot and the Mt hood were a bit on the old side (from the hop specialist on ebay) so it may be a bit less bitter than the predicted 47 in reality.

For 23l wort

Grain
4.50 kg Maris Otter
300g crystal
200g Flaked barley
200g Torrified wheat

40.00 g Pilot (7.8 ) 90 minutes
12.00 g Mt. Hood (4.0) 20 minutes
15.00 g Bobek (5.3) 20 minutes
12.00 g Mt. Hood (4.0) 0 minutes
15.00 g Bobek (5.3) 0 minutes

mash temp 66 degrees celcius
